Seattle was always expecting Seahawks linebacker/end Bruce Irvin to sign elsewhere this offseason. With limited cap space and major needs elsewhere, it just seemed like a certainty that the former first round pick would end up with the Jaguars or Falcons. So it didn’t come as much of a shock to hear that Irvin has found a new home. What was a bit unexpected was where he ended up signing – the Oakland Raiders.
Clik here to view.

Irvin was just one of a number of big defensive free agent names to hit the bricks and find a new home this offseason. The New York Giants are expected to sign former St. Louis/Los Angeles Rams cornerback Janoris Jenkins. That looks to be a deal averaging out to $12M per year.
The Miami Dolphins and defensive end Mario Williams have also agreed to a deal that will pay the former Buffalo Bill $8M a season. At two years, it’s not a long-term signing for Miami. Williams’ name was associated with the Seahawks for all but two seconds since his release. Mario Williams managed 38 sacks in a three season stretch with the Bills that makes him appealing considering he’ll line up with Ndamukong Suh on the same d-line.
Although the Jaguars missed out on Irvin, they did get their biggest target of the offseason in defensive end Malik Jackson, who just won a Super Bowl with the Denver Broncos. They paid a hefty sum to get him too, reportedly forking over $90M over 6 years, with $42M guaranteed. That makes him one of the highest paid linemen in the NFL.
Jason Pierre-Paul signed a one-year deal to remain with the New York Giants, bucking the trend of free agents relocating.
A trade between the Dolphins and Eagles that would have sent former Seahawks cornerback Byron Maxwell to Miami just one season after signing a huge contract with the then Chip Kelley led Eagles appears to be dead.
