As is always the case when Forbes releases one of their lists of the worlds richest people, or the NFL richest owners – people converge to see where the owner of their favorite NFL team is on the list. It’s bragging rights for the most hardcore sports fans that find almost anything to be competitive about.
Even in a sport with a salary cap, having the Seahawks owned by the wealthiest man in the NFL gives us even more pride on top of what the team already delivers on Sunday during the season. And yes, Paul Allen is the richest owner, and it’s not really close. $5.5 billion dollars separate Allen from Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross. $5.5 BILLION!
Jay Busbee at Yahoo Sports brought up a good point. The same owners that are worth billions of dollars are the same people charging you tens of thousands for personal seat licenses, thousands for season tickets, hundreds for jerseys, and double-digit beer prices. It’s no wonder that cities are starting to fight back when it comes to funding new stadiums. We saw St. Louis lose their team because they didn’t want to front as much as Stan Kroenke wanted them to. Although, it’s likely he never really wanted to stay with Los Angeles an option. That’s a topic I’m not going to dive into.
