With all the news of the Seahawks losing their free agents, word has come down that they also managed to keep one of their guys for four more years.
Cornerback Jeremy Lane reportedly agreed to a 4-year deal with the Seahawks on Wednesday, keeping some depth in the secondary heading into the later part of free agency and the NFL draft.
Although Lane missed a large portion of the 2015 season recovering from both a torn ACL and an arm injury suffered in the Super Bowl loss to the Patriots, he’s proven to be a capable defender in the passing game.
With the Seahawks tendering DeShawn Shead and Jeremy Lane re-signing, the two will battle for a starting spot opposite Richard Sherman, along with any other free agent signings and draft picks the team makes between now and training camp. Lane has also proven useful in playing not only as an outside corner, but as a nickel defender – something he’s actually done more often.
It appears that Pete Carroll has some use for Lane, having brought him back for four years. With a 2015 cap hit just under $700k, Lane will undoubtedly get a raise.
